The emerald island of Corfu is the northernmost of the seven Ionian Islands scattered off the west coast of the Greek mainland. It lies parallel with Albania and Epiros in north Greece, and its northern tip a mere 100km (62miles) or so from the heel of Italy.

This is Homer's "beautiful and rich land" and the best known of the Ionian Islands - a charming place of wildflowers, olive groves and cypress trees, elegant Venetian architecture, herb-scented mountains and sun-blessed sandy, shingle and pebble beaches.

Barbati BayBarbati Beach, the long stretch of white pebbles and crystal clear turquoise water, in the middle of the North East coast, is ideal for relaxing holidays. From the beach you have amazing views over to Corfu Town with the Old Tow, the two fortresses and across to the Greek mainland and Albania.

Barbati Beach, awarded with the eco-label "blue flag" by, offers water-sports such as paragliding, jet-ski, water ski and boat rental, but in general Barbati is quiet and the perfect spot for relaxation, offering plenty of sunshine, natural beauty and friendly hospitality. Barbati Resort is very popular among families and couples.

You will find the nightlife in Barbati very low-key. You may enjoy your evening meal from one of the traditional tavernas, restaurants or bars overlooking the sea. Stroll along the main road while exploring the merchandise of the giftshops. The atmosphere is slow, laid-back, yet inviting. If you are looking for a more vivid nightlife, the resort of Ispos is just a few minutes away by car.

The location of Barbati in the center of Corfu offers great opportunities for exploring the island. Hiking in the area in very popular as the view gets more and more stunning and breathtaking the higher on the slopes, on sometimes strenuous trails, of the impressive mountain "Pantokrator" you get. This is the perfect place to enjoy the special landscape of Corfu with old, tall olive trees and the abundance of nature. Mountain bikers consider this area of the island paradise. If you prefer to explore Corfu by car, there are plenty of road to take you to the top of the mountain.
